Know The Code

Responsibility Code

Skiing can be enjoyed in many ways.  At ski areas you may see people using alpine, snowboard, telemark, cross country, and other specialized ski equipment, such as that utilized by disabled or other skiers.  Regardless of how you decide to enjoy the slopes and trails, always SHOW courtesy to others and be aware that there are elements of risk in skiing that common sense and personal awareness can help reduce.  Observe the code listed below and share with other skiers the responsibility for a great skiing experience.

  • Always stay in control.
  • People ahead of you have the right of way.
  • Stop in a safe place for you and others.
  • Whenever starting downhill or merging, look uphill and yield.
  • Use devices to help prevent runaway equipment.
  • Observe signs and warnings, and keep off closed trails.
  • Know how to use the lifts safely.

Know the code.  It's your responsibility.  This is a partial list.  Be safety conscious.  Officially endorsed by: National Ski Areas Association.

When purchasing a lift ticket, snow tubing pass or trail pass at Giants Ridge, the purchaser and user should assume and understand that skiing and snow tubing are hazardous sports; and that bare spots, variation in snow, ice and terrain along with bumps, moguls, stumps, forest growth, and debris and rocks and many other hazards or obstacles exist within the Giants Ridge ski area.  Such dangers should be recognized and accepted whether they are marked or unmarked.  Skiers and tubers at Giants Ridge should realize that collisions do occur and injuries may result, and therefore skiers and tubers assume the burden of skiing and tubing under control at all times.

You and you alone are responsible for making decisions on the mountain. Whether it is using the terrain parks or skiing the groomed runs, KNOW THE CODE and learn how to be safe!
